The earth is not at rest is a collaborative work with Sol Archer, and comprises five silent videos, produced over the course of a month in response to the evolving content and sites of __WENDEL! OPEN YOUR DOOR__, a group exhibition and programme of events initiated by the Woodmill and hosted by Cafe Gallery, Southwark Park, London in July 2013. The group endeavour took as its starting point Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, a graphic retelling of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, to form the basis of a number of reading groups and research trips, and from which both individual and communal responses emerged.

The earth is not at rest developed from a script comprising dialogue and stage direction both from Shakespeare's text, and from Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead; a play within a play, in which two principle (although minor) characters both enact and observe the unfolding narrative in which they are also complicit. Set against these connected abstractions - conversations that weave between different games and the hand of chance, and the potency of the night as a space for dream and creative disobedience - is an astrological prediction for that month of July. For the project, an astrologer was commissioned to produce a forecast chart, mapping out the planetary transits and celestial events that corresponded with events in the exhibition programme.

Images were filmed in and around Southwark Park, the majority of which were captured on Midsummer night. In tracking shots and movement between the undergrowth of the park, the camera is a cognisant eye, equivalent to viewer, as a character on the periphery of another narrative. In one scene, a jogger is seen preparing for a run in a green and shady glade, in another, two caryatids are posed as if stretching to move, their postures strangely equivalent. Each episode acts as a trailer for the episode to follow, as well as document of the exhibition process.
